How MRD Testing for Recurrence and IO Therapy Provides Peace of Mind

For cancer survivors, monitoring their response to immunotherapy and staying ahead of potential recurrence is a crucial part of ongoing care. Real-time monitoring can provide earlier indications of treatment effectiveness or recurrence than traditional imaging alone, helping provide peace of mind and the ability to intervene sooner if cancer is detected to return or progress.

Signatera™ is a Molecular Residual Disease (MRD) test that detects small traces of cancer (known as ctDNA, or circulating tumor DNA) in the bloodstream and can monitor a patient's response to immunotherapy (IO) treatments or help detect cancer recurrence earlier.

Support at Every Stage

MRD testing looks for tiny traces of cancer in the blood that can't be seen on scans. Tissue-informed MRD tests like Signatera™ are custom built using DNA from the original tumor, creating a personalized ‘fingerprint’ for tracking your disease over time. During and after treatment, your provider can monitor your blood to

  • Check for Residual Cancer - determine if all cancer was successfully removed with treatment

  • Monitor for Recurrence - detect signs of cancer recurrence before symptoms appear

  • Assess Treatment Effectiveness - understand how the cancer is responding to immunotherapy or other therapies

Personalized Detection

MRD testing can be done at key time points—after surgery, during treatment cycles, and every few months during remission. This longitudinal monitoring helps tailor follow-up care to each patient’s risk profile.

Monitoring Immunotherapy Response

For patients undergoing immunotherapy, MRD testing provides real-time insight into how well the treatment is working. If your Signatera™ test is negative, that’s a good sign. If it’s positive, your care team may adjust your treatment plan.

This Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Ask About MRD

MRD testing is changing how cancer survivors monitor recurrence and response to treatment—offering a more precise, personalized approach to staying informed. If you’re a lung cancer survivor or still in treatment, talk to your care team about whether MRD testing might be right for you. Because every survivor deserves the tools to move forward with clarity and confidence.
